Both options are sized to your neck circumference before printing. Due to the customization, I do not accept returns/ exchanges. Turn around time averages 2-3 weeks.

DIY Spine Kit

Thank you for purchasing a DIY kit from me! Here are some simple instructions on how to finish up a 3d print. If you have any other questions, please email [email protected] or message me on Etsy.Spine necklaces & Kits can be purchased on my Etsy

IN THE KIT:
‣ Unfinished 3d print
‣ Jump rings, hooks
SUPPLIES NEEDED:
‣ Pliers
‣ x-Acto Knife
‣ Sanding Supplies
‣ Dust Mask!
INSTRUCTIONS:
Your print should look something like this. Due to the nature of 3d printing, printing supports makes the surface of the print less than ideal. I am always trying to improve the model so that the least amount of finishing work is required, so yours may look slightly different.

You will need to break the supports out with pliers, the necklace has some small holes, so I also like to use an x-Acto knife and a small clay modelling tool to get out the supports. A small metal bit on a dremel also works like a charm.
The supports are printed away from the surface of the model, once you break them off the piece should look much nicer.

After all the supports are off I generally clean up the inside with a diamond tip bit on my dremel. I find this works a lot better at getting a clean finish than a sanding bit.

If you don't have a dremel, carefully use an x-Acto knife to break away the remaining supports, then start sanding. My preferred method for these is to use a metal file and sanding sticks.
PLA is non-toxic, however it's recommended to wear a dust mask and safety glasses while sanding.
HARDWARE:
I've included small jump rings (generally bronze), the necklace takes 16 down the spine, and 2 on the neck. Use larger ones on the neck so that it can open/ close properly. Gently open the jump rings with pliers and close them in position.

Because the S ring is stainless steel, it's very hard to close. Please go carefully so you don't hurt yourself, or break the print. Note the location of the S ring, you want it facing inwards so it can close. Depending on the fit, you may want to drill a second hole in the necklace (see second photo, I made a little cutout so it could close flush)

PAINTING:
Planning on painting your print? You can save some time on sanding by using sandable filler primer, it smooths out the lines in a 3d print saving a ton of finishing time. I currently do not offer painted prints.

You can pick up filler primer at most hardware stores in the spray paint section, or on Amazon. The filler primer will help fill in the ridges/ lines, and even out other imperfections in the print. Imperfections are the least noticeable on light colors such as white, so when it gets painted they will be more prominent. These can be painted without use of a filler primer, however it will generally look better with the ridges smoothed out. I would recommend painting with basic acrylic paint and not spray paint, since it will be against your skin.
